In alternating chapters, we learn about Amir’s life and how he came to be on the boat, and we follow him and the girl as they make their way toward safety. What Strange Paradise is the story of two children finding their way through a hostile world. But it is also a story of empathy and indifference, of hope and despair-and about the way each of those things can blind us to reality.

Det här var en otroligt drabbande bok. Den är välskriven och spännande. Intressant men hjärtskärande sorglig och våldsamt tankeväckande.
Det här är en hård verklighet för så många människor just nu idag ute i världen. Många desperata människor som letar efter en framtid för sig själv och sina barn. Som i förhoppningen att kunna ge sina barn bättre möjligheter och trygghet ger sig ut på en desperat och ofta dödligt riksfylld resa.
Så svårt att tänka på att det faktiskt dessutom finns ensamma barn som skickas ut på sådana här resor. Barn som är ensamma och utsatta. Den här boken målar upp den verkligheten så att vi som läsare kan förstå. Även om vi ändå aldrig inte riktigt kan det. Förstå.
